Recently, I read an article saying that more and more retailers are requesting to plus models for their campaigns. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical but after seeing this new ad from H&M, I’m pleasantly surprised!
According to London’s La Mode, “it’s all about keeping it ‘real'”. With more and more companies looking at catering to all their demographics, the curvier model is in demand.
Do you think this is just a trend or a shift that is here to stay?
Full Figured Fashion Week Founder, Gwen DeVoe, just announced that Vicky (the model featured here) will be walking the runway at the highly publicized plus size fashion event in June!
“It’s been really great,” Humphries tells PEOPLE. “The line is really fashion forward, the clothes fit and they look amazing. It’s been a really good experience.”
Humphries, older sis to Kris, had dabbled in modeling before last month, but only got serious about the industry recently. “I wasn’t ever like, ‘I’m going to be a model,'” she recalls. “I was a medical sales rep until last month.”
I recently got a chance to talk to Brooklyn-based designer, Nailah Lymus, about hew newest venture…the launch of the first modeling agency exclusively representing Muslim female fashion models. Yes, I said Muslim models.
Nailah talked to me about setting the record straight about Muslim women, their role in the fashion industry and of course how they are viewed in the non-Islamic world.
Check out this sneak peek from a recent shoot for the UNDERWRAPS site and my article on the Examiner (click the picture to view the article).
I will be attending the official launch for the agency during New York Fashion Week and will be bringing more news about UNDERWRAPS as part of event recaps. Untile then….ENJOY!
