After what was turning out to be a crazy Saturday morning (police activity in Times Square that had the cops literally running through the streets with assault rifles…welcome to New York City), I raced over to Studio 450 on the west side for the United Bamboo show. I had the pleasure of being backstage getting an up-close-and-personal look at the Fall/Winter 2011 collection.
Showcasing a trend with definite staying power, United Bamboo was all about tailored-men’s-inspired pieces. Tweeds, wools and knits dominated the landscape of the collection but with a decidedly feminine feel. But fans of United Bamboo need not be disappointed. The brand didn’t totally leave their edgy appeal. The traditional suiting feel was offset by the “abandon” of United Bamboo’s accessories—leather motorcycle gloves, oversized totes and satchels and even a model sporting pink hair. Definitely a line for our more corporate fashionistas who want to retain the professional look, but have stand out appeal.
